The Great Transformation
Here are some pictures from during the transformation process the Nomad Nest underwent from an "Bulgarian-style" 1-bedroom apartment to a studio we ourselves would have liked to rent when we first came to Bansko.
This is how we bought it at the beginning of 2021:
At first we thought to just maybe paint the walls and add some insulation to the outer walls. But that turned out to be not such a small task.
Hence we soon decided to do a major overhaul of the apartment and turn it into a studio. All walls were removed including the bathroom:
This not only gave us all freedom to work with the whole raw space of the apartment, it also let us redo the windows: we decided to throw out the old ones and replace them with a single 4-segment window with sliding doors. That way we wanted to blur boundary between inside and outside.
It's hard to find the right people for construction jobs like this. The "turnaround" of the apartment had to wait some six months until after destruction of the original layout we were able to start with the construction of the new layout.
But how would the final studio look like? We had some ideas, but we found it hard fill the "empty concrete box" with a solid vision. But once the bathroom was done and the walls were painted we had the feeling this was going in the right direction.
The next milestones were the kitchen - which took IKEA a long time to deliver and delayed the project quite a bit -, the bed, and the sofa.
And then, finally, after some 14 months we were able to finish the apartment by installing the curtains! We're so happy, and so relieved!🥳

A huge thank you to Iskra Marinova and her construction workers!🥰 Iskra's team has done an amazing job in turning a "concrete box" into a cosy studio apartment!
If you should ever consider buying an apartment in the Bansko area and remodelling it: Be sure to call Iskra and talk to her about your idea and planned schedule.
